Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Protect your account with an extra layer of security. 2FA requires both your password AND a verification code to log in.
Why Enable 2FA?
- Prevents unauthorized access even if your password is compromised
- Required for high-value transactions
- Protects against phishing attacks
- Free and easy to set up
How to Enable 2FA:
- Log in to online banking
- Go to Settings → Security
- Click 'Enable Two-Factor Authentication'
- Choose your verification method:
- Text Message (SMS): Receive codes via text
- Authenticator App: Use Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator
- Email: Receive codes via email
- Verify your phone or email
- Save your backup codes in a safe place
Using an Authenticator App (Recommended):
- Download an authenticator app on your phone
- Scan the QR code shown in your Acme Bank settings
- Enter the 6-digit code to verify
- Done! You'll now need the app when logging in
Backup Codes:
When you enable 2FA, you'll receive 10 backup codes. Save these in a secure location. Each code can be used once if you don't have access to your phone.
Trusted Devices:
You can mark devices as 'trusted' to skip 2FA for 30 days. Only do this on your personal devices.
Troubleshooting:
- Not receiving SMS codes? Check your phone has signal and SMS isn't blocked
- Lost your phone? Use a backup code or call 1-800-ACME-BANK
- New phone? Disable and re-enable 2FA with new device
